My name is Kim Callahan. This is my 8th year teaching at Cataract. I enjoy working with the children and learning from them.
I am from Onalaska, WI and I went to school at UW-LaCrosse where I majored in Elementary Education and minored in Early Childhood Education. I have also completed my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Viterbo University.
I am very close with my family. My parents, Russ and Roxie, volunteer at the school often. I have a brother, Andy, who lives in Madison with his wife, Jada, and his daughters, Maddie and McKenzie.
In my free time, I enjoy "surfing the web" for new ideas to use in my classroom. I also enjoy listening to music, reading, watching movies, and walking.
This year I will be teaching Pre-K in the morning and team teaching K-1 with Mrs. Langrehr. I look forward to working with the children!
We are using the Handwriting Without Tears program in both pre-school and K/1. The children enjoy using the materials to build letters and find that it is a lot of fun to learn! Our school is also using a new math series, Math Expressions in K/1 and Everyday Math in Pre-K. Both are excellent programs that really help children gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
This year looks to be a fun and exciting learning time for all!
